I feel a little sad for vanilla ice-cream. It gets a bad rap. And that thought inspired this poem, which I had a great deal of fun writing (without the aid of AI, only my Penguin Rhyming Dictionary).
Yes – sometimes my ideas pop out in the form of rhyming poems. Sometimes there is nothing I can do to stop them. This one arrived at 4 am. I am feeling tired, but happy.
I’ve been to poetry workshops that slate rhyming couplets as somehow inferior to other forms. The advice has been to avoid them – they can be constrictive – but I find the opposite.
Writing rhyming couplets, and reading them aloud, makes me feel like a girl again. And that can’t be a bad thing, can it?
If you enjoy this poem, or vanilla ice-cream, or anything I’ve said in this teeny tiny post, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Or hit the heart to send me a wave from afar :)
The online writing circle I host each month – The Joyful Visibility Creativity Circle – is ten months old!
Oh, how glad I am that I followed my inspiration (another 4 a.m. affair) and gave her life!
Earlier this month, as well as the usual three online gatherings, I hosted two circles, live, in the divine space pictured below to celebrate International Women’s Day:
And the online version continues!
The page has been refreshed, and includes a number of testimonials which may help you discern if this is a place you would enjoy.
This is a space to:
Step off the treadmill and reconnect with your creative heart
Practice being visible in a way that feels joyful and nourishing
Be seen and heard exactly as you are
Inspire and be inspired by other soul-led women from all over the world
Cultivate your capacity to bring forward, express and create what you truly wish to contribute — in your life and leadership
£15 per seat, only eight seats per circle, with a choice of three times each month to suit different time zones. No ongoing commitment required. The next date is 10th/11th April, after that 15th/16th May. The full details are here.
If you sense, and know, and feel deep in your body, that bringing more of yourself, more of your words, more of your creative heart and soul into your everyday life and leadership is what you’re meant to do — we’d love you to join us!
With love (and a scoop of vanilla)
Claire
